Guide for Opportunity Fund Requests: FSL Dues Payment & Reimbursement

Edited

This guide is specifically for individual members of Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) seeking financial support for chapter dues through the Opportunity Fund (Opp Fund). Please review the following information carefully to ensure your request is processed in accordance with ASSU and University financial policies.

Important: Do Not Pay Out-of-Pocket

Do not pay dues from your personal account.

If you are approved for TSF/FSL Opportunity Fund support, the appropriate amount will be transferred directly into your chapter’s ASSU account. Your share will then be included in the group’s lump-sum payment to Nationals—meaning you will not need to pay out-of-pocket at all.

However: If you are not approved for TSF/FSL Opportunity Fund support prior to the payment deadline, you will be responsible for covering your portion of dues yourself.

New Policy: All Dues Must Be Paid from ASSU Accounts

  • Required: All groups MUST pay their member dues directly from their ASSU account.

  • Lump-Sum Payments Encouraged: Members should deposit their share into the ASSU account via ASSU ePay. Groups are strongly encouraged to pay dues together as one lump sum.

  • Credit Card Access: There will be a designated credit card for dues payments. Groups must coordinate with the External Manager during FSL Office Hours at the SSE office to make these payments. They will help you compile the appropriate documentation for your request.

  • Opportunity Fund Transfers: For eligible students, Opp Fund support will be transferred into the ASSU account so students do not need to front the cost.

How the Opportunity Fund Works

  • Once your Opp Fund request is approved, funds are transferred into your chapter’s ASSU account.

  • FSL dues must then be paid directly from that ASSU account.

Advance Notification Requirement

All individuals intending to use Opportunity Fund support must alert their group's FO or the SSE Cap Group External and Funding Manager prior to submitting their application.

Early notification ensures your ASSU account is set up correctly for fund transfers and payment processing. Failure to do so may result in significant delays or ineligibility for support.

Ineligible Payment Scenarios

  • Reimbursements for dues paid from a chapter’s external or pooled account, or an individual's personal account.

  • Payments made before receiving TSF/FSL approval

Summary: Proper Opp Fund Workflow

  1. Notify your FO or the SSE Cap Group External and Funding Manager of your intent to apply

  2. Apply for the Opportunity Fund through TSF/FSL

  3. Wait for approval and transfer of funds into your ASSU account

  4. Have your group pay Nationals member dues in one lump sum via OH with our SSE External Manager in office

Why This Process Matters

  • Protects against payment delays and denials

  • Ensures transparency and compliance with University financial policies

  • Promotes equity and responsible stewardship of community funding
